I personally liked Skyward Sword, Despite its ridiculous padding, I felt that most padding was at least interesting, except for the Tadtones (God, I hate those). I liked the stealth mission, and I liked the Silent Realms, and they were actually a little frightening when you were being chased. The controls were great, and it made me more immersed in the game. The dungeon design was brilliant, and the bosses were fun. The Sky was boring and slow, but Skyloft was well designed and memorable. The only story gripe was how they kept you going foward with the padding. "Proving that you are worthy"? GOD! You hear that so many times, its scary. Fi was annoying, and uninteresting, a big step backwards from Midna. On Ghiriham, I think the reveal made sense, I was kind of expecting it. The music was somewhat good, but not all that memorable. Overall, it was a good Zelda game, but it still has it's problems 3/5

I haven't played every Zelda game but I don't hate the Oracle games not as much as most of you guys. I personally have a nostalgic relation to those games because they were a major part of my childhood along with the Pokémon series. As for the Zelda games I HAVE played, well: Twilight Princess (I fell in love with Midna ) Skyward Sword (f***ing backtracking, but overall great -- in my opinion) Majora's Mask (it had that "je ne sais quoi" just as TP, maybe I just like dark settings ) Oracle of Seasons/Ages (reason already mentioned) Ocarina of Time (3D) (yeah, it was fantastic for that time and it got old with honour) Spirit Tracks (it seems that I don't like that comic look... it should be darker ;D) ... those are Zelda games I finished. There's still a few I haven't played and I'm still playing (Link's Awakening DX, ALttP) Everything is just MY opinion! Respect that and don't start a discussion, why OoT is the best, or something like that

The overworld had bland and feature-less. Fantastic grammar skillz. =P Anyway, I can't judge Skyward Sword, as I've not given enough of a crap to play it, but the Zelda Series as a whole just flat out doesn't interest me at all anymore. I don't know what it is. I've tried figuring it out. Same monotonous routine? Metroid does that and I like that series. Story? Don't think so. Characters? Don't make sense sometimes but certainly don't bother me. Gameplay is generally good. Music is generally good. SO WHAT THEN?! WHY DOES THIS SERIES FEEL FLAT TO ME?! Probably the weirdest thing ever, Zelda is the series that I think is pretty good but can't bring myself to bother playing. And there's no logical explanation why either. What a weird world we live in... The thing I don't like about the series is that there is no middle ground. The games are either great (Zelda II, Link's Awakening, OOT) or bad (Oracles, Skyward Sword). I guess the closest a Zelda game has ever come to mediocre was Minish Cap. And that didn't have anything wrong with it, it was just unmemorable.

I guess there's always the experience of doing so but still, that makes little to no sense at all.

Of course, most everyone would rather play a mediocre game over a terrible one. That's common sense. However, you said "the problem is that there's no middle ground." You yourself said they're either great or bad. Considering that a majority of the Zelda games aren't bad games (therefore meaning most of the games are great), you basically said you want the series to get worse to fill that middle ground, unless you think all the Zelda games suck and I just don't know about it. Which is why I think your statement was pretty much nonsense.

I have a theory for why skyward sword had so much padding. Its because of the wii's hardware. You can't make a game with a large and varied world on the wii cause it just can't do it. Thats why skyward sword only has four main areas(the three ground ones and skyloft) and the reason why you have to go to the same areas three times (finding zelda, powering up your sword, and the song of the hero). It was much easier on the wii to only have it run a few areas and it saved up space on the disc since it was single layered disc (It only had 4 gb to work with.). Skyward sword is a decent game but it really showed the wii's age. I just hope Nintendo doesn't cheaput with the wii U.

(also I have played metroid prime) Then you know all three of them had pretty big worlds, so the "Wii can't handle it" argument is pretty much garbage. No, it can't render it all at once, but still a weak argument nontheless.

Yeah I seriously wasn't thinking about Prime when I was writing that. :I Still maybe they had the padding to fufill that 100 hours of gameplay promise Miyamoto made ( twitter.com/#!/NintendoAmerica/status/113470674735075328 ).

It had a lot of backtracking, yeah. They were originally Gamecube, of course, but the Wii did handle it when it was ported. Unless you were meaning rendering the entire world at once, then really it's just up to what's on the disc.

Out of the Zelda Games I've played, Majora's Mask is my favorite (Despite not having beat it yet) and the original Legend of Zelda is my least favorite.
I don't hate the original, it just doesn't feel as great as the others, it was a hard to navigate around the overworld (I literally had to print out a map so I wouldn't get lost on it), and the game was cheap at times that annoyed the crap outta me (Mainly those secret entrances you would find that lead to an old man who forces you to pay him for DAMAGES DONE TO REVEAL THE SECRET ENTRANCE)
