I think we can all agree on what the stupidest complaint with Gen 5 is: the fact that it doesn't introduce anything new. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go break something. What did it introduce compared to others Gen 1: Set the Ground Work for the series Gen 2: Added Steel and Dark, along with correcting some issues of 1 Gen 3: Introduced Abilities and Natures Gen 4: Physical and Special split Gen 5: ?? Gen 6: Added Fairy. Added Mega Evoultions I am talking about huge meta changes. Like it made the game different to play. Moving sprites doesn't count. I always forget a second major change in Gen 3. Waka normally corrects me. Gen 5 added rotation and triple battles. Nobody likes those, though.

Why would you skip the trainers? That's like half the reason to play Pokemon. It's also the only non-time consuming way to get EXP. You need to do that or the game has no point. I mean skip the trainers you can't handle. They may be a bit overleveled, but I still found them to be, for the most part, manageable. But the actual trainers weren't overleveled. Instead, they had Lv.65 Bidoofs and Kricketots. The only things that weren't manageable were the trainers who actually gave out EXP (like the Elite 4).

I like most of the designs for the Pokemon (Golurk, Haxorus, Swoobat, Reuniclus), but also some that I really hate/dislike (Stunfisk, Alomomola). Gameplay wise, I loved it, Infinite TMs and Triple battles were good additions to the series, even though triple battles was not presented in the best way.
The story was ok, Team Plasma was ok. Post game had some interesting content, but I thought there were kinda too many legendary pokemon.
Overall a pretty good generation.

They weren't a huge shift in Meta. Two new ways to battle don't count as a big change? It didn't change the way the game is changed. If a new type is added you have to think about a whole new weakness. A new battle style didn't change the way the game was played. Most people still played in Single Battles.

Even with those changes, the combat has still felt the same with every Generation. And even if Gen 5 didn't innovate very much, who gives a fuck? If a game is designed competently, then it's a good game.

Oh, wait. Many new pokemon had cool combos in their natural move sets.
Joltik: Electro Web + Electro Ball (lower speed while attacking, then hit hard once speed cut)
Frillish: Recover + Water Spout (Water Spout is powerful, but loses power while injured, Recover though lets heal)
Ferroseed: Curse + Gyro Ball (lower speed while buffing attack and defense, Gyro Ball the hits hard with speed lowered)

I did have to grind for the Elite 4, but ONLY for the Elite 4.

Also with new types competitive has changed every single gen. Most comes from moveset and ability changes.

I seriously doubt a casual Pokemon player(especially if its a kid) would notice the changes. I certainly didn't until Fawful's Minion pointed them out to me.
