From Aonuma the guy behind the recent Legend of Zelda Games.. “There are no limitations on what kind of place Hyrule can be, other than that it is a country where Zelda exists as its Princess. We now have many titles in the series, so we are seeing characters and location names from previous titles coming up again. We are using these when it adds to the fun, but there is no rule that we have to use these at all. We may even need to change things you might take for granted like Zelda being a Princess. I would really like the next Hyrule to be a setting no one has ever imagined before.” What do you guys think? I do think we are going to see a Futuristic or Modern Zelda Game but i do expect a setting similar to Legend of Korra..a mix of Technology and Magic.. www.screwattack.com/news/zelda-news-zelda-wii-u-feature-new-hyrule

I've told you multiple times now Malcolm, edit your message instead of posting again. Did it for you this time.
Anyhow, I really wouldn't mind if they started to change things around. Would love to see Prince Link fall for serf Zelda or something like that.

If they do go the futuristic or modern route, CHAOS IS UPON US! Just look at the reaction to a TRAIN being added to Zelda. Anyway, as long as they don't jump the shark too much, it could probably work.

Eh, I wouldn't mind a slightly more modern setting that much, really. The only thing I'm worried about is sword combat. That's kind of a staple of the franchise. If they made a setting where firearms are pretty common, either they'd have to drop the sword, risk the sword being useless, or have everyone asking "Why can't I just grab a gun and shoot Ganon in the face?" None of those are exactly ideal.

To be honest..i want to see a more Darker Zelda game along the lines of Majoras Mask. Anyone else agree?

If they do go the futuristic or modern route, CHAOS IS UPON US! Just look at the reaction to a TRAIN being added to Zelda. Anyway, as long as they don't jump the shark too much, it could probably work. Well, you see, the thing is that if it was just a prop in the game, like if there was a town based around trains and subways and stuff or something like that, then I'm sure the fanbase wouldn't have minded. However it was the fact that the train was the main mechanic in the game - the selling point, if you will - to the entire game. It's practically your only mode of transport throughout your journey instead of being able to walk around the fields freely. I'd assume the boat mechanic in PH worked because it had already been introduced in WW previously, so people were slightly more open to the boat idea. Though it wasn't the same with ST since the idea of a train came out of nowhere. Thus, people refused to give the game a second thought since they felt it strayed too far from what made the game a zelda game. SO basically what I'm getting to is that if the new Zelda game were to introduce a new setting, I strongly believe it could work because it's not a game mechanic their changing, really, it's the setting. They'll just be giving Hyrule a new look, I trust fans won't view this change as "negative" or "straying too far from what makes a game a zelda game".

What about a steampunk world? I wouldn't mind if they added some industrial elements. I like early industrial themes. This would be a pretty neat idea, for example.I would mind it though if they just slapped some gears and a top hat on a moblin and called it a day. Actually thinking about it more..what if there was a FP Zelda games that is Twilight Princess mixed with Dishonored..actually that would be rather awesome Wouldn't work. A first person perspective doesn't work Zelda's style of melee combat. They'd have to turn it into a stealth game (which would be silly), a shooter (which would be silly), or a non-combat exploration game (which would, again, be silly).

For adding technology, it could work like Tales of Symphonia with the magitechnology thing they had. Just as long as they don't completely remove the magic and medieval setting that gets passed on to the series. (Looking at you Final Fantasy: Spirits Within!)
