Here is a boss fight from LoS 2,looks like fun. Lords of Shadow 2..actually does not look that bad but it's not Castlevania.. Of course it is,why wouldn't it?

That's not an answer to my question, though.

That's not an answer to my question, though. Lords of Shadow took every gameplay aspect that made the Castlevania games what they were, and threw it right out of the fucking window. The only thing this game has in common with the old games is that it has a guy named Belmont that hits things with a whip. Fuck the setting, fuck the aesthetics, fuck the lore. That's like taking Gears of War, giving Marcus Phoenix a blonde wig and calling him Link, calling the Locust moblins and saying it's the new direction Zelda's taking. That's not how it works. Does that answer your question?

I always thought LoS as a modernization of the older castlevania games like 1,3 and 4,somewhat like the new Ninja Gaiden games. It still has platforming (and also climbing),but the focus swifted from that to combat. It's a reboot,so new setting and lore were to be expecting. The canon one with it's approximated 734 dracula resurrections got silly anyway.

I am conflicted..while i am not the biggest fan of LOS i really liked Mirror of Fate because it reminded me of the old school Castlevanias

Does that answer your question? A franchise of games is not defined by a specific genre. Just because Lords of Shadows is different from other Castlevania games doesn't mean it's bad. Granted, I haven't played it, so I don't know if the changes are actually good or not, but it's wrong to criticize a game simply for being different.

I never said Lords of Shadow is a bad game, I'm saying it's a bad main-series Castlevania game. If they'd made it a spin-off series nobody would've given a damn, but the things this game changed were not what fans look for in a Castlevania game, so obviously fans aren't gonna be happy with the direction they're pushing the franchise in.

So, to ease up the current state of tension.....
I've been playing Aria of Sorrow and.........how the heck have I not played these games before? This is awesome! Soma looks like a badass with his coat, the platforming is well done, the story threads may be few between but it's justified since the castle is almost a huge maze. The fact that there are enough varieties of creatures for each area means I have to react differently for each location so it isn't a mindless charge.

In terms of characterization and back-story Soma is the best Castlevania charcter..
