You can discuss both Clone Wars series here (the one with the "The" and the one without), along with the upcoming sequel series set to be released next year, Rebels since Dave Filoni is involved with both TCW and that series. And sorry, I was stupid enough not to make a backup of the retrospective I finished one week before the shutdown of the last forum (that's six months of work lost unless V3 is miraculously restored, but should that happen, I'll make sure to back them up this time).
To begin this thread, I have some news in regards to The Clone Wars bonus content (AKA Season 6 material that was already being worked on before the series' cancellation). According to a Facebook post from series supervising director Dave Filoni, we now have a release date (and revealed just before the Season 5 and Complete Series DVD/Blu-Ray sets are released; and somehow I got the feeling that would be the case). It's not an exact release date, but it's set for early 2014 (and thankfully, that's before Rebels airs).
How these episodes are going to air, we still don't know (and no, those rumors saying they will be exclusives to Apple TV are just... well, rumors; official sources haven't actually confirmed that to be true).
In addition to that arc involving Yoda, we should be getting the unaired Rush Clovis arc (originally made and finished for Season 5) since Leland Chee said that it had been moved to a later season long before the cancellation. Also, here are some previews released earlier for the bonus content.
Judging by this preview, not only does it look like Admiral Trench survived the events of "Cat and Mouse" (I guess the writers he was too good of a character to have wasted, and decided to take advantage of him only being caught in an explosion), but it looks like Order 66 is somehow being prematurely triggered in some Clones, one of them being Tup (from Season 4's Umbara arc). I'm guessing Order 66 is really a Manchurian trigger.
Then we have this preview with Plo Koon and the Wolfpack, and according to other sources, this has something to do with Sifo-Dyas, the Jedi behind the commissioning of the clone army.
If this preview and the previous are part of the same story arc, I'm guessing Sifo-Dyas might not actually be dead and he had some sinister motives behind creating the clone army. Further supporting this theory is word from Mark Hamill at Celebration Europe that he voiced a Sith Lord for the bonus content (his first non-live action role for any Star Wars media).

News from New York Comic Con. More details on Rebels. And we've got our first major villain reveal (and original one at that): the Inquisitor. starwars.com/news/nycc-2013-meet-the-inquisitor-the-new-face-of-evil-in-star-wars-rebels.htmlWell, now I have an idea of which character Steve Blum's voicing in this series. And looking at his design, he may be a Pau'an (judging by the vertical lines in his face and the carnivorous teeth). Again, Force-sensitive non-humans seem to get special privileges in the mostly racist Galactic Empire.

Ah yes I heard about Star Wars Rebels a couple of days ago. I hope it gets treated with more dignity than the Marvel shows did.

More info in regards to Rebels from NYCC, and from Pablo Hidalgo. www.ign.com/articles/2013/10/13/nycc-star-wars-rebels-new-info-on-the-role-of-jedi-and-more-on-the-empire?abthid=525b5360407d0a1b02000021In regards to the Inquisitor, he's not the only one. And it's another one of those concepts from the Expanded Universe. We also got some more story details, at least for the first few episodes. Chronologically, this series occurs 14 years after Episode III, which is 5 years before Episode IV. And yes, we got confirmation that people are going to die in this series. Well, now we don't need to worry about Disney "kiddifying" it yet. And we finally find out what happened to the Clone Troopers before the Original Trilogy. Turns out most of the Stormtroopers are recruits (may explain why could't shoot the broadside of a Krayt Dragon if it were three feet in front of them) and since the Jango clones are getting old, they are now either trooper trainers (I can see some of them facepalming watching the sharpshooting tests) or defecting from the Empire (why I do see Captain Rex and some other 501st troopers being among them?). In regards to The Clone Wars, IGN revealed a deleted scene from "The Lawless". This is only an animatic, meaning it's unfinished.

Well, while I am kind of interested in Star Wars Rebels, I am still wondering one thing: where is Star Wars: Detours?

From what I hear, Detours is kinda on hold. In other news, Season 5 of The Clone Wars is now available on DVD and BluRay. Also, Seasons 1-5 are now available in a complete set, and it costs half as much as buying all five seasons individually. And even better, this set comes with a 50-page book with never-before-seen concept art. If you want to start getting interested in this series, buy the complete collection. Don't make the same mistake I did (buying 1-4 individually, and not long before the announcement). And speaking of, we have the first part of an interview with Dave Filoni in regards to Season 5, especially when it comes to variation in the tones of different storylines. starwarsblog.starwars.com/index.php/2013/10/15/interview-dave-filoni-on-star-wars-the-clone-wars-season-five-part-1/#more-20640

Well, the Season 5 DVD for The Clone Wars came in today, and guess what: The episodes are actually in chronological order as was intended (for those who don't know, Season 5 had one of its later episodes moved to Season premiere, probably a result of marketing the hell out of Darth Maul's return). So "Revival" is placed before "Eminence".

Controversial opinion time! I wouldn't have said this at the time of the first season and the movie, but as of now, I prefer Dave Filoni's CGI Clone Wars over Genndy Tartakovsky's 2003 miniseries (funny thing to say considering I grew up with the microseries, but that just means I'm not pulling the nostalgia card). Don't get me wrong, I still like Tartakovsky's series. I just feel the new series has outdone it over the years. How? The 2003 series was awesomely animated with high-octane action sequences, but it did very little to expand on the story of the war. This is probably just a result of the 2002-2005 Clone Wars media being just there to pass the time between Episode II and III. Volume 1 of the microseries was working off Episode II while Volume 2 worked off Episode III (and was in some ways promoting it). The modern series worked off not just the Prequel Trilogy but the Original Trilogy as well, and as a result of being made by a studio closer to Lucasfilm, there were more liberties they could take, especially since the series was made after Episode III and they didn't have any more movies to build hype for at the time. Only difference this time is that George Lucas's involvement was more hands-off and was around as creative consultant. I know, some of you may pull the "but they're butchering EU continuity" card, but who cares as long as the work itself is pretty good? I also see a problem with the continuity claim: preserving continuity doesn't mean perfection. It's similar to the claim that Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is superior to the 2003 anime just because it follows the manga much more closely. No, I just like Brotherhood better because there's far less filler to go through; I didn't even read the manga. But enough talking about unrelated works. What I'm trying to say is that the quality of a work should not be judged solely by how much it is continuity-consistent with other works in its franchise, especially when they're part of a really large franchise and the people in charge may not know much about them (and I doubt there's many people that have seen every work to come from the Star Wars franchise). And like I said several times when I was writing the review on V3, some retcons are for the better. Also, I feel the 2008-2013 series was what the Prequel Trilogy should have been like. And in some ways, it was sort of a fix-fic for them. For example, bringing Darth Maul back from the dead and somewhat cheapening Obi-Wan's victory over him? Maul was a character with wasted potential in Episode I, so no harm done, and they managed to give him a more developed personality and some very dire consequences for Obi-Wan failing to kill him properly. (Namely that he's now batshit crazy and is willing to kill people close to Obi-Wan just to psychologically torment him.) And I think Anakin Skywalker's a better character in this series. Again, I still like the 2003 series, but like I said at the end of my six-month review on V3, it feels like just a prototype for the CGI series in the end (especially since some elements from the 2003 series made it into the 2008 series).

Well, I would only take this with a grain of salt as it's only a rumor, but it seems a trailer for the "bonus content" (going by the name "The Lost Missions") was revealed at an event in Poland. And we got some more details of what's to come in these episodes. Also, it seems these episodes will be on Disney XD (if that's true, at least it won't be Apple TV-exclusive like other rumors on the internet are persistently spreading around). From another update on the page, Pablo Hidalgo (for those who don't know, he works closely with Lucasfilm) claims that our "Lost Missions" may actually be more than 10 episodes. www.starwarsunderworld.com/2013/11/rumor-clone-wars-bonus-content-details.htmlNow we only to need to wait for official sources to confirm it.

This is a few days old, but we got an interview from Greg Weisman.
Now, we just need to hope that this series doesn't get cancelled after only two seasons. But considering what franchise this is and that its predecessor lasted 5 years, there's a chance of it defying the Weisman curse.

The final part of the StarWars.com interview with Dave Filoni about the end of The Clone Wars and the beginning of Rebels is now up. starwarsblog.starwars.com/2013/12/19/interview-dave-filoni-on-star-wars-the-clone-wars-season-five-part-3/From the discussion, the bonus content isn't exactly a wrap up to the series so much as what was in the works before the series got cancelled. And Rebels, being in a different time period, is mostly going to be its own story and not really a continuation of The Clone Wars - even if some story elements do find their way in there. For all we know, we could be seeing the likes of Hondo Ohnaka and Embo again. Since those two were neutral characters in the previous series (a space pirate and a bounty hunter, respectively), they wouldn't be too out of place in the time of the Rebellion. On another note, may I suggest moving this thread to the cartoons section since this is a thread about two animated series?
