From Neogaf Today (somewhat dubious) Hollywood industry site Tracking Board claims to have information about Sony/Columbia Pictures' 'upcoming' Sonic The Hedgehog film. And it's...., well have a look for yourself. It’s recently been confirmed that a movie adaptation of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is in development at Columbia Pictures, with the studio going for a dark, edgy version skewed towards older audiences! NOT ONLY this, but the studio plans to make it a mix of live-action and animation, allowing the much loved character to really meld with reality. According to the article the project is being co-produced by Neal Moritz (Fast & Furious franchise to name but one project) and SEGA. For those of us who played the classic Sega video game as kids (or if you’re still playing it right now), this could be an adventure ride for the ages. I mean, who doesn’t want to see a bad ass version of Sonic?! Everyone. In the world. The only thing to do now is find a writer for the project, and an awesome shortlist has already been put together with some real heavy hitters: Brad Bird (“Incredibles, “”Wall-E,” “Brave,” “Toy Story 2,” “Up”) Wernick & Reese (“Deadpool,” “Monsters Inc,” “Zombieland,” “GI Joe Retaliation”) David Berenbaum (“The Spiderwick Chronicles,” “Elf”) Phil Johnston (“Wreck it Ralph” and “Nebraska”) link

The article has to be fake.
Seriously, this is just an early April Fools joke I guess.
As for the film, if this film is true, it's a animated film that's gonna be kid-friendly.
That could be good...If they get the Surf's Up team again. But frankly, the cold never bothered them anyway, I guess.

I could see it working as long as it's done with a good writer

Also, it could work if they get either a team who can't let it go, or a team that makes everything awesome. (It's a joke.)

Given Sega's recent push in merchandising and Sonic Boom being announced, I wouldn't be massively surprised if a film adaptation surfaced (I think there have already been rumours of it floating around actually).
However a "dark, edgy version skewed towards older audiences"? I doubt it. Sega's attempts to make a dark, edgy Sonic have gone horribly 90% of the time. There's a good reason the later games have become more kid friendly. (though Lost World took a step away from that)
A darker version of Sonic can and has worked when done right. I just don't see it happening.

Oh yeah. (Though I do think TDB did have it easy saying it was from BioWare, which are some of the masters in terms of RPG storytelling)

Well, let's take a look at all the Sonic games that have had dark and/or serious stories: -Adventure -Adventure 2 -Battle - Shadow- '06 -Unleashed -Black Knight -Chronicles -Lost World Those that failed are underlined.

To be fair I thought the story in Lost World was somewhat decent...
...I mean it wasn't fantastic or anything, but it was alright.
