There's still one form of Sonic media you're forgetting. And it's arguably the darkest. Err... Admittedly I'm lost here. I don't really know of the darker media unless it's like some Japan/America only thing The comics.

Ah the comics. The comics are absolutely fantastic, and probably also the reason why Sonic is my favorite franchise.
I wouldn't mind a Dark Sonic story. No really, I wouldn't. I know why Sega is aiming for more kid-friendly games because of the new generation of gamers (as long as they aren't playing cod or fifa) but really, this gets me interested very much.

"You're going home in a box!" -Zazz "I will burn your world you rebellious scum! Destroy everything you love and make you watch!" -Dr. Eggman "So long as I can still strangle a Zeti, my hands are fine." -Dr. Eggman "I long for death's cold embrace..." -Zor "I'm gonna skin you alive!" "I'll eat your black hearts and destroy everything you care about!" (may have remembered that one wrong) "As long as I can still strangle a Zeti, my hands are fine." Not to mention the whole draining the world's life thing. (funnily enough there was a similar story in the Fleetway comics) That's considered dark writing nowadays? Blimey, I must have missed the memo. Well relatively speaking it is. Keep in mind that this is the same series that had the line "We'll show that guy the REAL SUPER POWER OF TEAMWORK!" Err... Admittedly I'm lost here. I don't really know of the darker media unless it's like some Japan/America only thing The comics. Both series... ...yes I'm a fanboy of the Fleetway series, deal with it.

That's like saying the American Kirby boxart is dark "because relatively speaking it is".

My initial point was that a dark and edgy Sonic rarely works. When did that happen? Never mind, it doesn't matter...

I think I remembered an article I read a few years ago that said they made the American box art like that to reflect the dark elements in the game. Of course, that could've been a theory.

OK maybe the writing of those games isn't exactly DARK per say, but it does show that the series can be taken seriously. That's what I envision this movie to be like. The writing will still be light-hearted, but the story itself will be a bit extreme. That, and the characters will be made three dimensional.

I agree..honestly i don't want the live action Sonic Movie to be as dark as Sonic 06 and Shadow the Hedgehog but i do want it to have dark elements in it like Sonic Adventure 2
