I have been thinking more about it. I have decided to ask you guys a question..what is the Citizen Kane of Gaming? Personally there is one game that fits being the Citizen Kane of Gaming. It revolutionized Cinematics and was the bench mark for all games on that console to be measured by. It had one of the best stories in the industry while also pulling off stellar gameplay and put a certain franchise on the map. It is a game that still holds up today..it's the one and only Metal Gear Solid 1. I know some of you dissagre..if you do post what you think is the Citizen Kane of Gaming in the comments below.

I honestly think that title is BS, but I take the SNES Shin Megami Tensei if I had to choose a game for that.
It's dark, it's serious, it addresses religious and political commentary in a serious way and your actions affect the outcome of the story. It hasn't been received as it deserves, but it did pushed the boundaries and changed the way role playing was seen, at least in Japan.
I mean, anything with player input in the story, unlike the Last of Us, deserves that title.

As far as revolutionary games go, I'd say Super Mario 64.

I would say the Citizen Kane of Gaming is Bioshock. It set the standards for all first person shooters game. The ending makes you put everything you do into perspective. Maybe The Walking Dead would be a good candidate. I think gaming will never have that big Citizen Kane moment.

I love both games but I'd never say that Bioshock is in any way original. Walking Dead was good too but barely a game. Don't really know what I'd pick. Super Mario Bros. because why not.

A lot of people have the argument that a video game needs to be much like a movie to somehow be "revolutionary". Though what kind of qualities a revolutionary game needs to have could in itself be debatable. It's unique for each person, I mean, some people value the story, others the engaging gameplay and stuff like that.
The closest thing to a revolutionary game that I can think of would be Half-Life, in terms of how it engages its player and encourages him to play by his own rules, and provides consequences for every minor action he does, WHILE at the same time keep him railroaded, immersed, and interact with the outside universe in the intended way. On the second spots I'd put SMB, SM64, possibly even Super Metroid.

It would have to be a game that revolutionized it's genre, and is still enjoyable today. So that leaves out Super Mario Bros.

I think System Shock 2, Half-Life 2, Warcraft III, Ocarina of Time, and Final Fantasy VII are all good canidates. Also with gaming one thing does effect how they are made like movies. It may be a joint effort.
