I agree with this. Everyone has the right to disagree with the majority but the issue is that some people are just too defensive of their own opinions. For example I have a friend who only seems to care about his opinion and as such I often try to avoid discussing things where his opinion is opposite to mine since I know it'll just lead to an argument.

I disagree with this and strongly so.
People get defensive of their opinions when they feel they being attacked for them or that they will be attacked for them.
It's not the person who has the unpopular opinion, but the people who try starting something over it. Um, instead of bashing someone's opinion you could just say... "I disagree" and that's all you need to say. Well, trying to push opinion on others and force them to agree when they don't is wrong as that violates their right to have a differing opinion, I think case it would be the person with the unpopular opinion. Differing opinions don't need to cause conflict, just learn to step back and just say "I disagree". There's no true right or wrong when opinions are involved as opinions aren't facts.
Infact, you probably don't care that I disagree with this. Likewise I don't care that you agree with it.

Alright, allow me to summarize this thread:
"We do not want see any threads dedicated to unpopular opinions anymore, since people get way too confrontational in those and we've noticed a significant decrease in actual reasonable discussion since they appeared. However: this does not mean you can't share opinions that might be unpopular, you just get to do that on a thread about the subject you have that opinion on." "I DISAGREE THIS IS CENSORSHIP EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO SHARE HIS OPINION" "We aren't banning people from sharing opinions, we just don't want to see those massive opinion dumps that only lead to conflict." "I DISAGREE THIS IS CENSORSHIP EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO SHARE HIS OPINION" "Again, we aren't banning people from sharing opinions, we just don't want to see those massive opinion dumps that only lead to conflict." "I DISAGREE THIS IS CENSORSHIP EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO SHARE HIS OPINION" "..."
It's getting kinda tiresome. I don't mind it if you say you think it's a bad idea and why, but please read the whole thread first before you bring up arguments that have been debunked already, okay? Thank you.

And basically that. After I posted what I posted seeing as I missed the discussion around it, Avaril and Coffee explained it to me, and I basically got it. If you have any problems that aren't on this thread I'd suggest asking them as they seem to know what they're doing about this. If a thread is only causing un-needed hate between people multiple times the best thing to do is to shut it down. I originally thought that they were shutting it down before the problem as with the issue with Serious Discussion, but there is plainly issues going on here. If it is happening multiple times the data shows that it's probably not a good idea to keep it. Now if you wanted to say your opinion on a topic make a couple of new threads about the topics you want to discuss. Say you wanted to put out your say on (Let's say) Kuroko no Basuke. Go ahead and make a thread on it and have simple discussion there. If there is a problem we'll deal with it, but this should most likely lower the amount of issues that we previously had.

...shouldn't this be locked? I mean...people DO get the point, and it seems pretty agreeable and logical.
I don't know, that' s just what I think.
