Why is it that stuff made by small amounts of people are sometimes better then the big corporation s**t we sometimes get? An example is this game (and South Park). The music? SUPERB! FLIPPING AMAZING! GAMEPLAY?! BEST I'VE EVER PLAYED! THE HIDDEN FNIAL CAVE?! CHEAP/HARD AS ****. I am in the process of getting the best ending... like I said The hidden final cave hard/cheap as ****. Anyways... OPINIONS!?

I've owned this game for almost two years and still haven't played it. My brother loves it to death and keeps pestering me to play it though. The music is quite excellent from what I've heard of it.

It's one of my favorite 2-D platformers (only beaten by DKC 2) and I really enjoy it. I actually have sixth place on the leaderboards for speedrunning the Wind Fortress stage added in the Steam version. Though I must admit, the difficulty spike for the true final level is bullshit.

It's a good game, but how the hell were we supposed to know that not checking on the doctor after he just fell down a huge pit would allow us to get the good ending? That's a bad game design choice right there.

I have it on steam thanks to family sharing. My brother loves the game and will play almost any version of it, even the gaming calculator version of the game which surprisingly exists. I still need to play, but I just never get to because I'm too damn lazy to even do so.

That's a bad game design choice right there. Well consider this, if he didn't give you the jetpack, then he would have it and be able to escape, thus not dyeing.

Yeah, if you fall down there, you can't get out without the Booster, it's actually pretty genius. I like how the game design in this game tempts you trade in Polar Star in another gun, like in the Sand Zone, where a fully charged Machine Gun can help you skip past several annoying sections.

That's a bad game design choice right there. Well consider this, if he didn't give you the jetpack, then he would have it and be able to escape, thus not dyeing. Except that's not how he escapes. He fixes the broken teleporter which coincidentally is the only way the game hints that you can save him. Except to find said teleporter you have to have already fallen down there and even then you would have to somehow connect the dots and realise that he can be saved by just leaving him. Yeah it is kind of dumb. Oh and why I'm on this tirade, how did he find the time to finish the Booster if he was injured and busy fixing the teleporter? ...but yeah I still love this game and I've always liked the surprising amount of secrets in it.

Random, some what unnecessary thread revival GO
I've been thinking lately, why is Cave Story called a Metroidvania? Because it really isn't. If anything, it's like Mega Man X, where it's linear level design with little secrets along the way. And yes, I know Pixel said the original Metroid was a big inspiration, but still.

Well what else are you going to call it? A Mega Cavia? Anyways, I just remembered the creator said a sequel is all but confirmed. So what do you guys think should be in it? I say it should be either 2.5 D or 3D.
