Ok, so ive had this idea for a while now, and i really want to make it a reality, but i cant animate/draw for crap....nor would i want to draw for crap but thats beside the point!
Im still a bit uncertain on what names i should have (none of these are final, im partly making them up on the spot here) but here is the general idea:
The story begins when two magicians, Sage and Amy discover a teenage boy lying on the ground whilst on the trail of a spirit summoned by a magician that has recently been connected to several crimes. The boy has little memory of his past life, except for a few flashbacks, and is holding a strange book filled with blank pages. This book is known as the Libris Anima, one of the Libros Dei, a book that gives the user incredible power over spirits, and allows the user to channel a them, allowing them into their body to grant them extrodinary power.
The boy, reffered to as Dee, is taken in by the two and helps them on a few missions, one of which involves a meeting with the Golem of Prague. However, after only a short while, A sigil is placed on the back Dee and Sage's hands, and both hear a voice. It is a summons to all who bear the mark that a grand tournament happening again: A chance to obtain a single wish...
Magic:
Magic is entirely based around the applications of spirits. Spirits are beings from another dimension, and are mainly based around the classical elements. Summoning a spirit requires a sigil, as well as force of will. If the sigil is not drawn correctly or has a break in it, the spirit can escape and will consume the caster.
One of the Libros Dei can overcome this problem, as the book creates a perfect sigil on the ground itself. However, the book will only work for a certain person, and it can only work when it touches blood. A Libros Dei is nescessary for channeling, in which the user draws a certain spirit into their body. After this the can either submit to it or try and have complete control over it
Talismans are items that have been imbued with a spirit. These allow the user to access part of a spirits power, but they are more limited than using a spirit itself. However, they are considerably less risky to use.
Amulets are protective or binding charms that can either ward against certain types of magical attacks or bind a spirit in place. Notable non-magical examples of amulets include silver, iron and rowan wood, all of which can harm spirits.
Technology:
Not all of those entering the tournament use magic. In the years since the last Tournament, sufficiently advanced technology has become indistinguishable from magic, and there are those using this in their attempts to gain their wish
Characters
Dee: The main protagonist. Whilst he is cursed by the annoying tv trope of amnesia, Dee is also a holder of the Libris Anima, and as such is able to channel a spirit: In his case, Ariel, A spirit of Air. He lacks knowledge about most of the sublties of magic, often having them explained to him by someone else, but he makes up for this with how much he enjoys the fights he takes part in. He prefers to fight using a rowanwood staff, which can harm spirits.
Ariel: A spirit of the Air, Ariels personality is simmilarly carefree. He is quite cynical about Dee to start with, since spirits are often subjugated by their masters. However, with time, he starts to trust Dee more and more. When Ariel is being channeled into Dee, The whites of Dee's eyes turn a pale green, whilst the irises become white. When being channeled, he prefers to fight with his fists, as he is also hurt by Kites staff (Being a spirit himself, he is harmed by the tough of rowan wood)
Sage: Sage is quite a serious person, who feels that spirits can never be trusted. This is because, long before he met up with Amy, he was trying to track down the owner or a rampant spirit with his own. However, the spirit he was working with went and killed the summoner: A small girl who didnt know what she was doing....Instead he now uses a special talisman: A charm string which can move to either bind a spirit or form a structure, such as a ballista.
Amy: Amy is Sage's partner when it comes to dealing with rouge spirits and magicians. Unlike Sage, she feels no enmity for spirits, conforming with the general view that they should be treated with total neutrality. She is often the one who explains the subtleties of magic to Dee. She typically relies on summoning her Yatagarasu for aid, as well as a Tengu. She assumes she hasn't been selected to take part in the battles because she doesn't have a strong enough wish, unlike the other two.
Kuro: One of the worlds best thiefs, he stole a technologically advanced unit known as UMBRA in order to find and eliminate the gang who took the life of his older brother when he was young. Whilst he displays a very laidback, almost cocky attitude outside of the fights, in them he can have an almost ruthless determination, doing anything bar killing his opponents to get his wish. The UMBRA unit allows him to manipulate a little known type of matter that absorbs light. (P.s. im using Kuro's name here because Kuro is a japanese term for darkness or blackness, so it fits)
Zawa: Zawa is the heir to a large magical family, though he has rarely met his father, ever since his brother vanished. The house he is heir two holds two magical talismans, both swords. Whilst Caledfwlch, the white longsword of his brother, was stolen, he bears its twin, The black claymore of flame, Dyrnwyn. In battle, he uses the propulsion of Dyrnwyns flame to make up for his lack of stature.
Higemaru: Higemaru, much like Zawa, uses a sword talisman. However, his sword is Kusanagi-No-Tsuguri, a fabled weapon once owned by a god before being given to a human. This sword has the power to manipulate the air. During one of the fights, however, he is disarmed and his own blade is driven into his left palm. Whilst the use of his hand has been taken from him, a shard of the sword still remains within him, allowing him an even more precise control of the air.
Avaril: Avaril is an oddity, even amongst the fighters. Whilst he does directly summon spirits in his fights, Instead of commanding them, he infuses their powers into bullet casings, creating literal magic bullets (the casings can be reused unless he changes his shot type, allowing for him to quickly reload his dual revolvers). Avaril was a gun for hire, until one of his targets cursed him to roam the earth forever. knowing that eternal life would become unbearable (This isnt the first time this has happened), Avaril sees the tournament as a way to set himself free of an otherwise painful destiny. (So overall, he's basically Revolver Ocelot with wizard powers).
Fawn: Fawn can appear at first to appear quite distant, though she does show some connection to the other characters. This is because she has been "Blessed" with the gift of being able to see the future by using 8 cards representing the classical elements (Fire, water, air, earth, heat, cold, moisture, and dryness). In the fights she uses a regular deck of cards for most of her attacks, and the eight future cards have some control over their element.
Logan: Owner of another Libros Dei: The Libris Corpus. Unlike Dee, he doesnt see subjugating spirits as something wrong, as spirits will try and do anything to trip up their summoners (because they are being subjugated, and round and round it goes people....). Whilst he initially comes across as an antagonist, he is actually quite a noble person: His wish is that no one who wants to use magic to harm or cheat others will be able to. He is also a master of the "Perfect dominion" state of channeling, in which a channeler completely overpowers the spirit and uses their power at will. He channels the spirit Ignatius, a spirit of flame and earth, who is able to rapidly create weapons out of molten ore (Gues who this character was orginally based off: Hint, its not loganightlegend.)
The Adjudicators: The 4 overseers of the games, their names are Bellum (A slightly cocky character who is incredibly violent, but easily dismisses some of the dark horses), Loc (An eternally hungry person who physically looks like skin and bones. Not very interested in the games, but enjoys the occasional match) Victor (Simmilar to Bellum, but focuses on winnin more than fighting, and isnt nearly as cocky) and Ebon (a mysterious character who seems very interested in some of the wild cards of the tournament, like Dee and Kuro). Each of them is able to enter a 'True form'. For Bellum, it's the Warmongerer (Not sure on design, but he uses an axe), Loc's is Eigth Plague (He becomes a partially insectoid being, with 4 arms, each holding a sickle, insect wings, and an exoskeleton) Victors is Conquers glory (Like a king or general in full (and very spiky) armour, with an obviously ancient blade as a weapon) and finally, Ebon uses his Reaper Man form (Baisically grim reaper with black wings. Face cannot be seen under hood).
Well, tell me what you think so far. Ill be adding in Bios for characters soon, but do you like this?
Also, how do you apply spoilers to the text
