Focus on the causes of crime, straight up killing people for the crimes they commit will not eliminate the circumstances that created the criminal. Now I get that not all crimes can be put down to background but I think that if we are to kill people for crimes, that's a completely hypocritical move; it's third degree murder on behalf of the state.

What I mean is to ease up on activities and ways of thinking that risk tempting criminal acts.
At whose expense? Ideally should be nobody's. Focus on how much it'll cost and who'll be paying the bill is example of thinking I think needs be changed. Shouldn't helping people in need and stopping people from committing crimes in first place be more important?

One of the causes of crimes is that people aren't afraid of punishment. Make them afraid of punishment, and the number of crimes committed will reduce somewhat. As for hypocrisy, the point of justice is to make the punishment fit the crime. For example, the government fining someone for littering is not theft, arrest is not kidnapping, either.

Point taken on the latter half of it. However, if we worked far harder on removing situations which create crime (poor housing, economic inequality) then fear of punishment is no object; people don't just murder each other because they can. Not to mention that most of the law and court system is fucked anyway and creates cycles of reoffence. Rape and murder are disgusting offences but tackling it one individual at a time is no way to go about it, people are aware of what will happen to them if they are found guilty, crime has to be tacled on a social, economic, and rehabilitation level, not reactionary retribution.
