Alright, since it's obvious that V3's gonna be gone for QUITE a while, I'm gonna just go ahead and continue my review thread here, if that's fine with everyone. Before anybody begins, let me just go ahead and say what I think about the games I reviewed on V3. Metroid Prime: Good Sonic Generations: Good Sonic Adventure DX Directors Cut: Good Super Mario Galaxy: Good Metroid Prime Trilogy faceoff: Metroid Prime won To The Moon: Freaking beautiful Sonic the Hedgehog: Eeeeeeehhhhh it's alright Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Better Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Best Classic Sonic Game. Period. So yeah, you guys might know that, for the entirety of my review thread, I've done nothing but good games. Today that changes...slightly. Let's get into SONIC CD...cause that one completely slipped my radar. STORYWell, like Sonic 2, 3, and Knuckles, Sonic CD does try to add a bit of meat to the story by adding two new characters: Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. Let me get the lamer one out of the way first. Amy does NOTHING but get captured in this game. She's this game's equivalent of Princess Peach. In fact, it's kind of questionable WHY she was in this game to begin with. I already have incentive to stop Robotnik, he's capturing innocent animals and turning them into robot minions. Why have him capture somebody? I get it, have Sonic get a love interest, but couldn't she have been introduced like Tails was, she just saw Sonic running and just followed suit? It would've worked fine. But who really cares about her? Let's get to the AWESOME addition: Metal Sonic. Metal Sonic was created by Dr. Robotnik to be a complete upgrade of Sonic in every way, and, get this, he actually SUCCEEDED. Metal Sonic is just as fast as Sonic, has more powers, and is stronger than Sonic in nearly every aspect. Metal Sonic has, quite expertly, just about owned Sonic. Now, what's really happening? Well, Robotnik has a small...planet? It's called Little Planet, so I guess it makes sense that it's small enough to be on ball and chain by Robotnik. Sonic runs up after a flashy intro and goes to stop him, subsequently running into Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. Things happen, shit's wrecked, and Little Planet is freed. To be honest, I kinda like this story. Sonic has a bigger goal, freeing a whole planet instead of just some animals. Not to mention facing his robotic equal, if not, superior to save an animal form of Elise...WELL IT'S ALL SHE WAS THERE FOR!! GAMEPLAY Alright, so how does the game play? Well...eh. The stages will either be mediocre or bad in my opinion. To be honest, I don't really see the appeal in some of these stages. They LOOK nice, and we'll get into that later, but for the most part, they're structured pretty awkwardly. The game is trying to have you explore, but for the most part, Sonic games at the time should be a streamlined fast experience. And stages like Wacky Workbench don't really cut it for fast. More like insanely-JESUS, CAN HE JUMP HIGHER??! It sucks because this is probably the fastest 2D Sonic has gotten. Sonic's Spin Dash doesn't really work like it used to. Imagine having a gun that only works if you charge it to its maximum, and THEN firing it. Not doing so will have you standing there like an idiot with an un-fired gun while your target's over there dancing in front of your face mocking you for not shooting him. That's kinda like the Spin Dash now. Instead, we have the Super Peel Out. By holding UP and holding the B button (or whatever, I didn't have a Sega CD), Sonic will move with great speed, but ridding the invulnerability (kinda) of the Spin Dash. Really...I don't see a point for this. Sonic's Spin Dash did the same thing, and made me impervious to enemies to boot. The Super Peel Out (what's with the name anyways?), is useful only because the Spin Dash got unnecessarily nerfed. Bottom line, I'm not a huge fan of the gameplay. I thought I would be, but I'm surprised at how Anti-Sonic it is. Then again, considering the later games in the series I'll be reviewing...-shudder- AESTHETICSAlright, so the Sega CD was known for taking the 16-bit graphics of the Genesis/Mega Drive and enhancing those. It does this for Sonic CD, and it's...alright. Sonic's classic games have this curse for me. I can never really tell you much of a difference between them. Fortunately, neither 3 & Knuckles or CD have this curse, but I'll go on record saying this, CD has my least favorite visuals of the classic games. It's too damn bright in my opinion. There are moments like Stardust Speedway's Bad Future (I didn't bring up the time travel because, well for one, I hate time travel, and two, I didn't experience it that much. Short and to the point, it's shit.), but for the most part, it's like most of the stages were covered in grease. It's so freaking shiny and bright it hurts my eyes. Now the game has two soundtracks. The American Soundtrack and the Japanese Soundtrack. Here's a list of all the songs worth listening in the soundtracks. American-Sonic Boom Japanese-ALL OF THEM The American soundtrack is okay, but the Japanese soundtrack is pretty damn good, with songs like Believe in Yourself and You Can Do Anything, which are, for some reason, in English. I have both on my iPod, but I will say I listened to the Japanese soundtrack more than the American one. Lucky you, Japan FINAL THOUGHTSThis game's...okay. It isn't TOTAL SHIT, I'll give it that, but I wouldn't say it's anything amazing. The story is something else, something that Classic Sonic games needed, but it's just completely blown apart by the gameplay. Granted, it's not awful, it does keep some themes from the first and second game, but with the time travel and such, I probably won't be playing this game too often. By the way, I played the updated version. That was what I was basing this review off of. Well, we'll finally jump into 3D with the next game...SONIC ADVENTURE 2 BATTLE, seeing as how I already did Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut on V3. See ya next mission!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, CHAOS THEATRE! What better way to celebrate the holidays by finally jumping into 3D in the Sanic Marathon? Now, I already reviewed Sanic Adventure DX, and since you can still see it (but not log on) on V3, I see no real reason to copy paste it here. It's just a few clicks away guys. Anyways, that means I'm reviewing something kinda big. A game with pretty high ratings, and what most people ended up calling "The End of Good Sanic Games." Ladies (and gentlemen, I'm not sexist), Sanic Adventure 2 Battle! Now what's my history with this game? Well, I didn't get it until recently, but I knew about this game for a LONG time. I would constantly BEG for it, seeing as how my favorite character (at the time), Shadow, was in it. And I mean I was INTO this thing. I read it up online and all that. Well, sometime later, I kinda...stopped doing so. I got into other franchises, branched out, and I wasn't so hyped to get SA2B. When I saw it on Steam, and had the money and time, I thought to myself, "Mike, this is going to be the only time you'll EVER play this game. You've been harping on it for years. Do yourself a favor, and finally play the damn thing." So I clicked that buy button, and I proceeded to play it. That's where I started...noticing things. STORYGuys, this is the beginning of what I would call the "Serious Sanic Era." You know, the era where Team Sanic decided that Sanic wasn't serious enough back in the day and needed some good ol' fashion dramatic and complex story telling. It all started with this game. See, the story is split up into two teams. Team Hero, which is Sanic, Tails, and Knuckles, and Team Dark, which is Shadow, Eggman, and Rouge. I'll try my best to combine each story for a faster read. Anyways... Eggman's invading a military base looking for something called "Project Shadow," a project that he learned his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, created. After Eggman wrecks some stuff, he's surprised to see something that looks nothing like Sanic, but Eggman still mistakes Shadow for Sanic to begin with. Shadow says that, for releasing him, he will do whatever Eggman demands. So Eggman has him steal Chaos Emeralds. And for some reason, even with a CLEAR CUT PICTURE, everybody mistakes him for Sanic. Meaning Sanic is framed and he eventually goes to jail. Tails goes in to save him, only to realize that Amy went in to save him as well, and she's being held hostage by Dr. Eggman and Shadow, who were discussing how to get aboard this space colony ARK and fire some sort of cannon using the Chaos Emeralds. When Tails beats Eggman, Eggman runs with his tail between his legs, while Tails goes in to rescue Sanic. Around the same time, Knuckles is dealing with the jewel thief Rouge, and is preventing her from stealing the Master Emerald...which is in a CLEARLY different location than Angel Island. I'm assuming Angel Island's back on ground level, and nobody really gives a damn since it's not hurting anyone anyways. Eggman comes close to stealing the Master Emerald himself, however Knuckles shatters the Emerald (again), leaving him and Rouge to collect the scattered pieces. Sanic escapes the prison and goes to fight Shadow, however, Eggman had planted a bomb on the island they're on. This also leaves Rouge fifteen minutes to collect the Chaos Emeralds she needs, but for whatever reason, she says five minutes is plenty. Asshat. Sanic, Shadow and Rouge escape the island leaving it to blow. Eggman and Shadow head aboard the colony ark, and seeing how they have most of the Emeralds, they figure that a demo run of it should be enough to scare the civilians into obeying him. So, as a direct message to the most cliche President ever, he blows up the moon. However, Sanic and Tails trace the call and, along with Knuckles and Amy, head to this pyramid desert thing. After defeating a stone golem, they launch this rocket that was inside the pyramid and has no explainable reason to why it was there. Eggman has a teleporter to the ARK anyways, so...yeah. Anyways, everyone's aboard the ARK now, and it's revealed that Rouge is not only a jewel thief, but a GUN agent as well. After a brief fight between them, Rouge gives Knuckles her Emerald Shards and they make peace, effectively ending their story arc. Tails gives Sanic a fake Chaos Emerald, which has the same makeup as a real one, but is not as powerful. Shadow sees Rouge about to steal a Chaos Emerald around this time, and says that he knows Rouge was a GUN agent. Rouge also questions what Project Shadow really is. (By the way; there's a lizard.) Eggman kidnaps Amy and holds her hostage, while Sanic hurries to save her. Sanic goes in with the fake Chaos Emerald to trade for Amy, however he gets captured and sucked into space. Sanic, SOMEHOW knowing what Chaos Control is just by seeing Shadow do it ONCE, is able to perform it, get back on the ARK, all with a WEAKER VERSION OF THE CHAOS EMERALD. I don't know. Tails and Eggman fight one last time while Sanic and Shadow also fight one last time as well. Sanic throws in the Emerald to destroy the cannon, but Eggman takes the real Emerald and throws it in to destroy the planet. However, immediately when this happens, an image of Gerald appears explaining that he wants his revenge for being imprisoned, having HIS GOVERNMENT FUNDED PROJECT BEING SHUT DOWN BY THE GOVERNMENT, and his daughter Maria being shot dead...why did the government let him record this? He's clearly in prison by the time he's recording this, not to mention this has to be BEFORE the government shut down his project, otherwise how would he have time to build the cannon? This is fixed in a later but not nearly as better game, sure, but let it be known that this plot point originally sucked. Anyways, the teams join together except for Shadow, who, since he had a strong connection with Maria and felt that her death would mean everyone else's, feel that his mission is complete. The team race to the Chaos Emeralds to stop the ARK from exploding, when they are stopped by the original Project Shadow; AKA, a giant lizard. You know that lizard I mentioned? The same foreshadowing can be applied in the game, guys. Anyways, after a pep talk from Amy, Shadow comes in to help in what I believe to be the most punishing but not the most difficult Sanic boss ever. After defeating it, the lizard merges itself with the ARK, causing it's bum to be stuck to it. Sanic and Shadow go super and they lay the smackdown on the Bum Lizard ARK, and they use Chaos Control to stop the explosion. Shadow falls to Earth while Sanic is somehow okay. Plot Armor +10! ...guys, um...a few plot holes here an there? Because the story is kinda lacking. The Classic Sanic games didn't have plot holes, Sanic Adventure didn't have any plot holes, what's this game's excuse? GAMEPLAYWell, the gameplay is split into three, one for Sanic and Shadow, one for Tails and Eggman, and one for Knuckles and Rouge. Instead of selecting WHO you want to play as, the entire hub world thing disappears, meaning that each stage is streamlined and you'll be given a character to control then and there instead of picking one. Sanic/SHADOWSanic and Shadow's gameplay relies on that of which Sanic's in Adventure DX gave. However, the stages are now built for Sanic and Shadow, meaning there's more speed to be had here. Short and to the point, you're going to have more Speed Highway moments here. They also have what I believe to be the best stages, such as City Escape and Shadow's ARK Stage. However, there is a fault. There's hardly any of these stages. Literally. Sanic has about 7 stages, while Shadow has a measly four. FOUR stages, guys? I was EXCITED to play as Shadow. THAT'S a disappointment. TAILS/EGGMANBoth Eggman and Tails sport mechs with health bars and guns. What's disappointing about this? Well, it doesn't make sense with Tails. Some of the stages aren't even necessary story wise because of it. Like HIS City Escape level. It's like he forgot his Tornado is a freaking Transformer or something. Another thing is that these guys control pretty weird. I said in my Adventure DX review that I'm not a big fan of Gamma's gameplay style. Well...this is the worse version. It's somehow even MORE clunky and steering is just the largest BITCH. KNUCKLES/ROUGEOh, Knuckles. What did they DO to you? Both Knuckles and Rouge are tasked with finding certain objects, mostly Master Emerald Shards. Remember how in Adventure DX how you could search for any of the Emeralds and go at your own pace? You can't do that here. Instead, the game LOCKS the last two you need to locate and demands you find the FIRST one. Meaning that on the start, you could be RIGHT BY an Emerald Shard and miss it because it's not the one the game wants you to find. THAT'S terrible. As you guys can see, I'm not a big fan of the gameplay. In fact, that's a third of the game I enjoyed, and even LESS that I was actually excited about. The boss fights are, for the most part, pretty good, but the character fights are kinda iffy. Eggman and Tails just run around trying to hit each other and doing poorly because of how clunky their machines are, Knuckles vs. Rouge feels like Knuckles vs. Rouge vs. The Camera, and Sanic and Shadow just kinda hop about. Bottom line? No, Team Sanic. This is not good gameplay. AESTHETICSHELL of a lot better than Sanic Adventure DX, I'll say. The characters move and talk much more smoothly, and the game just looks a lot nicer. However, there's an issue with the audio. I don't enjoy the soundtrack as much as Adventure DX, mostly because it's not as diverse. See, Sanic, Shadow, Eggman, and Tails's stages all rely on EPIC GUITAR MUSIC YEAH ELECTRIC GUITAR GUITAR BRO GUITAR. Knuckles has some rap that's a comfortable experience for me, and Rouge just has ear meltingly good jazz music. Not as good as Adventure DX, but it's not bad and it's still worth a listen. Now the other issue for audio? Characters. Flat out. Interrupt each other. That's just terrible, guys. Each character in Adventure DX had TIME for their dialogue, but here, they got like 5 seconds before the next character speaks, giving them little time to actually, you know, SPEAK BOTTOM LINE?EEeeeehhhh I can see why James calls this a bad sequel. Sanic Adventure DX was a LOT better than this. The game only has a third of good gameplay, not to mention the story is riddled with plot holes and questionable things to begin with. The soundtrack is good, but the audio issues can be somewhat of a turn-off. I'd say get the game, but only if you're into Sanic. You won't enjoy it if you're new to him, I'd say.

Damn, I am FEELING it today. Folks, for a bonus Christmas gift, from me to you, I give you not just my review to Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, but also my review of what used to be my favorite Sonic game, Sonic Heroes. Let's get started. It's time to review... Alright, so my history with this game? Well, it's a bit of a long one. See, I had owned this game a long time ago. In fact, it was the second Sonic game I've played, and I haven't played one in a while. I had gotten it with a PS2 and had owned the game for a long time, and beat it several times, mostly enjoying it's AMAZING final boss. If you watch my videos, you already know who I'm talking about and why I love him. Anyways, this is where things get a bit...difficult to talk about. But hey, the harsh people who'll say, "Well, worse shit's happened, stop crying over it." left, so I shouldn't be in TOO much danger. One day, me, my mom, and my sister left for Toys 'R' Us for...something, I can't remember what. I had gotten Sonic 06 and was excited to play it. When we got home...the door was broken, the Wii, 360, and PS2 were gone. I might've...well, thrown a shit. Anyways, I had STUPIDLY given my copy of Sonic Heroes, along with most of my other PS2 games to Gamestop. Life lesson. NEVER give a game to Gamestop. 25,604 games to them is, like, $2. At most. Anyways, YEARS later, when we got a new Wii and stuff, I went to a local Otto's Game Shop and saw Sonic Heroes. There was money in my wallet. Do the math. I bought it, put it in my Wii, and... I was feeling nostalgic, sure, but...I noticed something was off. STORYOkay, so the story in the last game had a crapton of plot holes. Would this game clear them up? Well...no. In fact, this game has very LITTLE to do with the last one. Now, the game has four stories. Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, and newcomer E-123 Omega), Team Rose (Amy, Cream from Sonic Advance 2, and Big), and Team Chaotix (Espio, Vector, Charmy, all debuting in Knuckles Chaotix on the Sega 32X). I'll blend each stories like I did the last review. Which is surprisingly easy because the focus on the story is surprisingly minimal. Team Sonic is focused on stopping Eggman from using his Egg Fleet to take over the world, Team Rose is focused on finding Sonic, Froggy (AGAIN?! BIG!! KEEP A FUCKING EYE ON YOUR GODDAMN FROG!!), and Cheese's (Cream's chao) friend Chocola, and Team Chaotix is working for a mysterious man so they can pay the rent. Team Dark is a bit more story heavy, though. Rouge breaks into Eggman's base to find a secret treasure, only to find...Shadow. You know, he died last game? Hmm? I guess the plot armor with him just wasn't as strong as Sonic's, but efficient enough. Shadow wakes up to see E-123 Omega pretty much throwing a shit and firing on anything that he happens to have his eyes on. Rouge manages to calm everybody down, figuring out that Shadow has amnesia and that Omega is upset for Eggman shutting him down. And now I have questions. Lots of them. One, why doesn't Rouge explain to Shadow what exactly happened? She was THERE for most of Shadow's events. It certainly would've prevented ONE bad thing from happening. One very...very bad...very stupid story...and game progression. Second, why the HELL did Eggman shut down Omega? Don't give me that BULLCRAP that he wouldn't be able to control Omega, that's a shit argument. It's called a self-destruct button. If he REALLY couldn't control Omega, which makes no sense, then blowing him up should be incredibly simple. Anyways, the group is tasked with three main goals: Defeating Eggman and everything he built, figuring out Shadow's past the long, drawn out way, and finding Eggman's supposed secret treasure. Anyways, you'll notice Metal Sonic show up once in each characters' stories. Make a mental note of this. Anyways, in the end, Team Chaotix figures out the mysterious man was Eggman, trapped in a room, and Rouge finds out that the secret treasure was a bunch of Shadow clones, questioning the possibility that their Shadow could be a clone as well. *ahem* OBJECTION! If that's the case, why was THAT "clone" given his own personal room? Not to mention, wouldn't that Shadow have clear loyalty to Eggman alone? Why does he suddenly feel the need to let a giant, machine gun rocket toting robot take him out if he's a CLONE?! And THAT'S why, Your Honor, that this man is clearly GUIL-...*ahem*...yeah. Anyways, Team Chaotix, and also the rest of the teams, find out that Metal Sonic was the one who trapped Eggman in the room and was the one pulling the strings the entire time. All teams, using the Chaos Emeralds, defeat Metal Sonic in his final form, Metal Overlord, and the day is saved. To be honest, the story is actually pretty decent. Okay yes, I left with more questions than I had answers, sure, but it's relative simplicity and whatnot was a bit of a fresh air. Hopefully that continues for the rest of the series-my back feels cold again. GAMEPLAY Time for the big one. Let's be honest guys, the gameplay here SUCKS. The characters are INCREDIBLY floaty, have little to no weight to them, and slide around like they're on ice. But that's not even the worst of it. The worst of it is that you basically have to play the same game four times to get the final ending. More than that, you have to get the Chaos Emeralds in what I consider to be the worst special stages ever. Play them yourself, you'll know what I'm talking about. SLIPPERY AS HELL. Now, why do you have to play the game four times? Well, I mentioned four teams. Teams Sonic, Dark, Rose, and Chaotix. Well, each team goes through the same stages and have the same gameplay style. It works like this. One character is speed (Sonic, Shadow, Amy, Espio), one is flight, (Tails, Rouge, Cream, Charmy), and one is power (Knuckles, Omega, Big, Vector). Each character does go through the same stage, but there's at least differences. With Team Sonic, they're difficulty is the "Standard" setting, so the goal ring is neither hard nor easy to get to. Team Dark is the "Difficult" setting, and Team Rose is the "Easy" setting. What about Team Chaotix? They're the "Mission Mode." Their stages each contain certain missions through each stage, such as collecting hermit crabs (Huh?) to finding keys. It's actually pretty entertaining, if nonsensical. Annexing the final boss, you'll fight two varieties of bosses: Either Eggman or a Team Battle. A Team Battle is like a Rock-Paper-Scissors war for attrition. It can be INCREDIBLY annoying assuming you're not using the tornado move that speed members know. The Eggman battles all normally have you running at him and hitting him, meaning most damage you'll end up doing will be in speed of power. Flight? Flight's useless, don't bother. What's that? The enemy battles are boss fights too? Please. It's just wave after wave of enemies, how is THAT a BOSS fight? Now...let's cover the final boss. Metal Overlord...you know what? My next list is Top Fifteen Final Battles. He'll be on there. I can't simply TYPE how awesome he is, you just need to see it. I'll make sure to put a link when the video's there. Bottom line? It could use improvement. I can handle playing the same game four times, as each of them vary differently, but the characters just don't control well. Some of the stages are hell too, like the rail one. Yes. There's a stage...made nearly entirely of rails. Just let that sink in. AESTHETICSI made a statement saying that Sonic Adventure DX is the ugliest game I have for the GameCube games I have. Well...this is a pretty close second. The characters only move slightly better than in Adventure DX, and they are BRIGHT. AS. HELL. It almost HURTS how high the brightness level is, I mean JESUS. Wear sunglasses with this game guys. Well, okay, that's the characters. As for the stages, I have to say, this is actually really well done. All of the stages look really nice, giving major credit to Seaside Hill and Final Frontier. (Er...is that what it's called? I know it's Final Something...) The music, though? KICK. ASS. In Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, they were focused somewhat on the electric guitar more than they should've been. In this though? They keep a rock tone for just about EVERYTHING. And it works SO WELL. There's also a hell of a lot of new songs. See, Adventure DX had a good selection. It Doesn't Matter, Believe in Myself, Unknown from M.E, My Sweet...no, Open Your Heart, and Livin' in Paradise were ALL great. Adventure 2 gave us remixes of the first three along with E.G.G.M.A.N, Fly In The Freedom, Escape from the City, and Throw it All Away. But Heroes? Heroes gives us We Can, This Machine, Follow Me, Team Chaotix, Sonic Heroes, AND What I'm Made Of. THAT'S AWESOME. BOTTOM LINE?Well, it's better than Adventure 2 Battle, I'll tell you that. But my love for this game kinda declined. Which is actually kinda WEIRD for me. I used to LOVE this game as a kid, and I thought I would have nostalgic immunity for it. I...guess not though. I look at these problems and I can fully admit: this game is kinda sub-par. But...I still enjoy it and have a good time. Maybe THAT'S the nostalgic immunity, I'm not sure. All I can say is, this game did a lot for me as a kid, and while it may have issues, I myself am at least glad I played it. I'm the Silver Keyblade, and the next game...oh god...no...don't make me...dear god...please...I'll, I'll do ANYTHING! NO! PLEASE! NOOOOOOOO!!!!! -Happy Holidays, and see ya next mission!-

That's Final Fortress.
Anyway... I do not possess the same negative attitude you have toward these games. Love all of them to be honest. Far from perfect, but I love them anyway.

I acknowledge the flaws of Sonic Heroes, but it's still better than most fans make it out to be. At least, that's what I think.

...let me make this clear. I don't want to review this game. Not just because it's a game that...SOMEHOW got in my childhood, but because I'm going to get a lot of unbridled anger for even DARING to bash on "such an underrated, unappreciated marvel that has touched this world." Ladies and gentlemen...this...is Shadow the Hedgehog. By the way, does anyone know what's going on with the whole image thing, it won't work for me.
What's my experience with the game? Well, thankfully, this game wasn't stolen, nor did I get it for the PS2. Instead I got it for the Xbox. And I was excited to play as my favorite (at the time) Sonic character. So...let's get into it.
STORY
AND HERE WE'LL GET INTO THE WEAKER PART FIRST. LOVELY. Alright, so Shadow's standing on a hill, trying to figure out his past. All of a sudden, aliens. They just, show up with very little warning. Remember that lizard joke I made in my SA2B review? Let me put it out there, the lizard has hands-down a better appearance than...THESE things. They're not even well designed, and their LEADER. Why the HELL did I put him in my Top Ten Villains? Worst. Decision. Ever. Black Doom (HE'S EEEEEVVVIIIIIILLLL) tells Shadow that his past will be revealed if Shadow can collect the seven Chaos Emeralds. Is anyone else sick of those things by the way? It's like they've become God now, because EVERYONE is after them. Can we have something ELSE become God for a bit? Anyways, this is where things get...complicated. There are about ten endings, with each of them meaning absolute shit in the long run because there's a last story segment. So, for those who thought that an evil Shadow would've been interesting, well tough shit, last story. There's also a GUN Commander that has some sort of hatred for Shadow, but I have a question. WHY DOES HE HATE SHADOW??!! The President acknowledges after the FIRST LEVEL, meaning that it's actually one of the FEW CANON MOMENTS that Shadow was a hero. So shouldn't the Commander, I don't know, KNOW THAT SHADOW SAVED THE WORLD, AND BY CONNECTION HIS ASS?! AND THEREFOR RESPECT HIM?! Now depending on which path you take, you'll be controlling Shadow's course of how good or evil he is. Most of the time, just heading to the goal ring will result in the neutral ending. However, if you complete a certain task that a character gives to you, you'll be given the hero/villain ending. There's one where Shadow infiltrates a GUN base, one where he infiltrates the Black Arms base, the Black Comet, and one where, get this, he thinks he's legitimately an android. Wait, you mean I was supposed to take that ending in Heroes SERIOUSLY?! Umm...no. But here's an issue. Let's say you're on the last level, and you've infiltrated the GUN base and have so far done Black Doom's bidding. If that's the case, WHY THE HELL IS THERE STILL A GOOD OPTION?! WE'VE INFILTRATED GUN! GOOD IS NO LONGER AN OPTION!! Okay, it is, but it's STUPID NONETHELESS. Well, it's not like it matters anyways, because there's a Last Story segment. Upon getting the Chaos Emeralds, Shadow heads to the Black Comet to give them to Doom, however, Shadow hesitates because just about every Sonic character you can think of heads to the Black Comet to intercept them. Look, if Eggman is telling you not to give the Chaos Emeralds to someone and he's NOT trying to take over the world, you listen to him. Black Doom takes the Chaos Emeralds and warps the entire Black Comet onto Earth, while also freezing everyone...everyone except Shadow, who seems to escape by...er, OOH, LOOK AT THE PRETTY DARK COMET!! Shadow chases down Black Doom, and Team Chaotix, using the power of convenience, activates a video by Gerald Robotnik. Oh right, I forgot about that. See, Gerald and Black Doom both created Shadow when Gerald asked Doom for help because Gerald is allergic to lizards. Doom would proceed to help, but also mentioned that he'll use Shadow later to take over the world with the Emeralds to compensate. The video that Chaotix opened reveals that the Eclipse Cannon, the cannon on the ARK, was created in order to destroy the Black Comet when this happens. So, to give this story credit, it DID wipe out a plot hole that SA2B had. Shadow goes super in order to fight Devil Doom, a super powered Black Doom, warps the Comet back into space, and destroys it with the Eclipse Cannon, while also mentioning that he no longer cares about his past. And to be fair, that is probably Shadow's BEST moment, to focus on the future instead of the past. The story? It's shit. It's utter shit. In fact, it's almost, if not JUST as bad as 06. It's pointless, throw's in characters that don't even matter to begin with, and by god, the non-canon endings are just stupid. The Last Story segment isn't as bad as the non-canon ones are, but it's still pretty pathetic, only throwing in two good things, and it's not like they're necessarily great either. When I talk to people who like Shadow the Hedgehog, they normally say they don't like the story.
GAMEPLAY
I will say the gameplay is FAR more enjoyable than the story. Sonic Heroes was INCREDIBLY slippery and while Shadow still slides around it's not exactly terrible. It's not even that bad, in fact, I like how he controls. I also really like the gun physics, the aiming works nicely and by god I just LOVE floating in the air and shooting my gun. THAT'S badass. Of course, though, there are TONS of negatives to the gameplay that completely outweigh the positives. First, the vehicles. Why are these here? WHY ARE THESE HERE? It's like the developers FORGOT Shadow was fast. "But you can fire your gun while driving them!" ...I can fire my gun while running, too. "It protects you from getting hit!" So do invincibility capsules, and it's not like getting hit is easy in this game anyways. The vehicles, for the most part, are pretty damn pointless. The only one I enjoy is the hoverboard, mostly because it can traverse across poisonous waters and is relatively fast...compared to most vehicles. Another thing I don't like? The enemy AI. Okay, now if you're going the good direction, you would expect GUN not to fire on you, right? Nope. Well, shouldn't the Black Arms not fire on me since I'm heading the evil direction? Huh, they're...still firing. WHY ARE YOU FIRING ON ME?! DO YOU NOT SEE YOUR FLOATING EYE LEADER HERE??!! Some of the missions are a pain in the ass too. If it's not taking out a certain amount of enemies, which means going out of my way to search EVERY DAMN CORNER OF THE CITY, it's trying to take down the President's barely appearing plane. There are a FEW that I enjoy, but Sonic games shouldn't even BE like this. They should be getting to the goal ring and having a good time. But hey, this is Shadow the Hedgehog, having fun is for little girls and pussies! But what's the largest problem? One thing. One. Big. Thing. The stage is broken down so that there are multiple endings. However, the game is set up so that if you want to get to the Last Story segment, you have to complete each non-canon ending. BUT the game is set up so that if you want to do that, you have to start a new story EVERY TIME. Meaning that you'll be playing through Westopolis, with absolutely ZERO changes, TEN. TIMES. THAT'S HORSE SHIT. Some of the levels are REALLY annoying too, specifically pointing towards the ARK levels. And then there's the fact that they're SLOOOOOOWWWW. Yeah, you heard me. There's a Sonic game...that is slow. And don't give me that it's a spin-off. Shadow can use homing attacks, there are rings, it's in a 3D perspective, PLAYS like a Sonic game, it's a goddamn Sonic game. Sure, Shadow controls nice, but that means nothing to slow stages, stupid progression set-up, and all around USELESS SHIT.
AESTHETICS Hey guys? Did you hear Shadow the Hedgehog is a DARK GAME?! Because I don't think they MADE THAT CLEAR. SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG IS REALLY, REALLY DARK. This game is pretty damn dark, and it's actually pretty ugly to look at because of so. None of the backgrounds are pleasant to look at, assuming I actually CAN. And I don't know why, but SOMEONE in the character development team thought that the Sonic Adventure DX characters all moving like there's something jammed up their rear end was an absolutely GENIUS idea. And besides Shadow and Black Doom, the characters are all too bright for the setting they're in. If you see Knuckles in the Black Comet, you'll notice he's WAY too goddamn red. I watched Johnny's review of the game, and he said that if he listened to the music without looking at the game, he would not have been able to tell that it came from Shadow the Hedgehog. Well, I can easily say it did, because almost ALL of the Shadow OST sounds the same. Let me describe it. Heavy guitar, heavy drums, a few wah-wahs placed differently in each song, there you go. The ENTIRE OST, without mentioning the lyrical songs. The lyrical songs all kinda vary differently. But there are only a few that I like, unlike SADX, SA2B, and Heroes, which, besides My Sweet Passion, I liked ALL of the lyrical songs. From Shadow, I like I Am All Of Me, Waking Up, Almost Dead, Chosen One, and by god the BEST song and the song I think fits Shadow the most, Never Turn Back. Why do people think Chosen One fits Shadow the most? Sure, if you went for the depressing ending of the game, but not in Shadow's character as a whole, I mean that's a SUICIDE song there. Never Turn Back just fits how AWESOME Shadow is.
BOTTOM LINE?
...-sigh- Guys...I wanted to like this game. I really do. But...I just can't. I hate this game. I hate it so, so much. It is, by far, my least favorite Sonic game, and I've PLAYED Labyrinth and 06. It's ugly, the gameplay is atrocious, the story is downright mentally RETARDED, and overall, it was a very, very bad experience for me. Oh yeah, the characters swearing? I really don't care, but it's a pretty stupid way to make the game more needlessly edgy.
Well, join me in my next review where I tackle...OH COME ON! FOR CHRISTS' SAKE, HAVEN'T I PISSED OFF PEOPLE IN THE THEATRE ENOUGH?! NOW I GOTTA REVIEW THIS TOO! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
-see ya next mission!-

I love when people flip their lids on gaming topics. I really do. It's so fun to read/listen to. But as for your review itself, I agree. Total mess.

Remember how I made the intentions that Sonic 06 will be my next review? We-he-he-hell.... See, I said in the chatbox that I wanted to review Secret Rings and Black Knight, two games that I'm debating whether I should actually review or not. Since I'm doing that, I may as well review the Riders series. Now don't worry, I'm still doing 06 as an entire video. I just want to do Riders first. In fact, let me post my list of Sonic games, in order, that I'm going to review to avert confusion.
-Riders (this one) -06 (video) -Secret Rings -Riders: Zero Gravity -Black Knight -Unleashed -Colors (video) -Generations
You might notice Lost World isn't on this list. Well, that's because I've only played the 3DS demo. If I DO get it, I'll add it to the marathon. If I get it after I finish this marathon. I'll do it as soon as I possibly can.
With that said, let's get into Sonic Riders. Now, SEGA hasn't made a racing game for Sonic since Sonic R on the Dreamcast, which did pretty poorly for what most people say about it. And, well, that's the thing. A racing game for Sonic? That's kinda silly. Sonic is the fastest thing alive, according to SEGA. Therefor, having a footrace against Tails and Knuckles, well it just seems kind of silly. My fear of this was, thankfully, completely knocked out of the ballpark when I saw them on hoverboards...wait. Why is Sonic...on a hoverboard...in a race? Look guys, I don't think there should be ANY kind of racing Sonic game taken seriously (though I heard Sega All-Stars Racing was good), so my expectations for this is pretty low. My history with the game? Er...one day I got it. Woopee.
STORY Yeah, believe it or not, Sonic Riders has more than racing, it DOES try to have a story. And in my opinion, it doesn't do half-bad at it. Now, like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, there are two modes, Hero Mode and Babylon Mode. I'll converge the two, like always. A flock of birds known as Team Babylon (made up of Jet the Hawk, Wave the Eagle, and Storm the Albatross), are just lazing about being...birds, I guess, when Storm breaks in and tells Jet about Eggman. Eggman knows that Jet possesses a certain artifact, and that if he wants it to work, he'll need the seven Chaos Emeralds in order to make things work. Jet boasts that his hoverboard, which are all titled EXTREEEEEEEME Gear, can get the job done, and then robs a store to get the Chaos Emeralds. Team Sonic notices this and gives chase, however for whatever reason, they do pretty damn terrible at actually throwing a decent punch. Except Knuckles, who manages to hit Storm. Nevertheless, Team Babylon gets away, with Tails making a remark that they're known as the Babylon Rogues. By the way, say Babylon for a second. It's quite humorous. Team Sonic then notices that Eggman is hosting a World Grand Prix using these EXTREEEEEME Gear, and that all contestants must bet one Chaos Emerald. Sonic decides to enter after seeing that the Babylon Rogues, for whatever reason, are also entering. After the second race, Amy shows up for whatever reason, she doesn't really contribute anything to the plot anyways, so I'm not going to waste anymore breath on her. Wave shows up and takes a look at the board Tails made for Sonic. She plants a bomb on it, insults it, and walks off, leaving Tails to pretty much sulk at his newfound rival. In fact, that's pretty much all these Babylon Rogues are here for, to be rivals. Storm and Knuckles hate each other, Tails admires Wave's abilities but hates her attitude, and Sonic and Jet grudgingly respect each other. You'll notice that a LOT in the Riders series. Before the champion race, Jet, Storm and Wave all have a giant exposition dump moment where they proceed to talk about a file they got from Eggman. Turns out Eggman tricked them so that they could unleash something and so that he could find some sort of treasure. The treasure, as described, is given in a surprisingly GOOD storytelling. The music is good, and the story that's given, not to mention the WAY it's given, is actually REALLY good. Basically, a pair of "wings" were given to a boy, which allowed the boy to fly and gain ultimate power. Lord knows Shadow's jealous at this point. Anyways, the final racing day comes and it's pretty much Sonic vs Jet at this point. However, because of the bomb which Jet never wanted on there in the first place, Sonic's board blows up, which hands victory and the seven Chaos Emeralds to Jet. Jet uses the Chaos Emeralds on his artifact, and by this, his island, Babylonia, arises from the sand. Team Sonic and the Babylon Rogues give chase to Eggman, having Sonic and Jet one last race to decide who'll get the ultimate treasure, because this game already knows that Eggman will pretty much never have the treasure. Sonic wins, but offers the treasure to Jet. While he refuses, Wave takes the treasure anyways, basically saying, "The hell Jet? TREASURE, MAN!!!" They open the door, and find a powerful...genie thing in the doors, sending Team Sonic, the Babylon Rogues, and Amy (because, you know, she exists), into a ferocious battle with it. Once Sonic beats it, he discovers the treasure inside, a magic carpet, which greatly disappoints Eggman. The Babylon Rogues fly off, knowing that they'll run into Sonic and his friends again. Sure, it's simple and a little stupid at points, but to be honest, after finishing the review for Shadow the Hedgehog and the script for 06, it's a thankful breath of fresh air. The story about the "wings" and the boy is still done very nicely, and the story does manage to pace itself well.
GAMEPLAY Okay, so how does the game itself hold up? Well, the Extreme Gear all run on air. That's right, air. You know...AIR. -waves hands around erratically- AIIIIRRRR. The fact that you can run out is...well, stupid. Anyways, when you run out of air, your left on foot. You would think this is GOOD for someone like Sonic, but apparently should you run out, you'll be going at Silver speed, meaning you'll have to bother to find a refill station. I hate the refill stations by the way. They're slow, take forever, and most of your opponents zoom ahead to the lead when you actually finish. However, I don't hate the gameplay too much here. There is an alternate method to getting air: tricks. By wiggling joysticks and pressing buttons you'll do a series of tricks, and assuming you have good timing, you can get a ton of air doing so. You might also notice those rings on the track. Collecting more of those level you up. The higher your level, the bigger your air meter is, and the more powerful your attacks are. In order to perform an attack, you need to...BOARD up next to your opponent, and the attack will be automatic. You can also do a tornado, but it's near useless, completely situational, and I BARELY use it. Now, like in Heroes, there are three types of characters. Speed, Flight, and Power. Speed characters can grind on rails, flight characters can use these awesome hoop booster things, and power characters can smash through certain walls and obstacles. There are also certain Extreme Gears you can equip to your characters to add types to them. For instance, the magic carpet mentioned earlier? Equip it to a Speed or Power character, and they also have Flight added to them. There's also a mission mode to add challenge, and if you complete them all with a gold rating (which is tough, by the way, especially with Jet's missions), you unlock Super Sonic. Or, as I and many others call him, including Johnny, THE DESTROYER OF SOULS...ish. Super Sonic has Speed, Flight, and Power capabilities, has great speed, and controls well, but he is a GLUTTON with rings. They'll wear out quick. But what's another bonus? No air meter. Yeah, boosting takes more rings, but NO AIR METER. And rings aren't a challenge to get either. Unlock Super Sonic, you'll find he's worth it. There are also plenty of characters to unlock, and you can even unlock Ulala (Space Channel), Aiai (Super Monkey Ball), and...I can't remember the third one, but hey, no one can, so who cares?
AESTHETICS The cutscenes are about as good as Heroes...well, SLIGHTLY better, it's not on Shadow level. Really, I'd say it's SLIGHTLY worse than SA2B...ugh, THEY LOOK ALRIGHT, OKAY?! The stages, however, look FANTASTIC, like, Christopher Eccleston fantastic, and the music is pretty kickass too, with my favorite song being, of course, Super Sonic Speed by Runblebee. Trust me, you'll be hearing more Runblebee in the future.
BOTTOM LINE?/i] Eeeeeehhhh it's PRETTY good. The gameplay doesn't really make sense, but for the most part, it still works. The stages all run great, and the only boss battle in the game is...frustrating, but short. The music is decent, the aesthetics are decent, the story is decent, it's an all around decent game. I'd recommend it, but I wouldn't say it's as good as Adventure DX or Heroes.
I'm the Silver Keyblade, and I'll see ya next mission!
...no seriously, the next one is 06, I PROMISE.

Sonic R was on the Saturn, not the Dreamcast.
And the third character from another Sega franchise was NiGHTS, if memory serves me right.

Sanic R was on the Saturn, not the Dreamcast. And the third character from another Sega franchise was NiGHTS, if memory serves me right. No, it wasn't Nights that was the other playable SEGA character in Riders. It was someone that wasn't as awesome as Nights.

Sonic Adventure 2: I should mention that originally you were only going to play as Sonic, Knuckles, and Eggman. However due to concern that 3 characters is a step down from the previous game's 6 characters, Tails, Rouge, and Shadow were thrown in at the last minute and copied the playstyles. That's why there's a hero side and a dark side, and Shadow only has 4 stages. If you've noticed, some of those stages of the last minute added characters barely have anything to do with the story.

Alright, so I mentioned in another thread that I can't actually remember that...well, I'm having trouble voicing the Sonic 06 review. Don't worry, I WILL get on it later on. For right now though...it's at a standstill. Considering how I'm putting a lot of heart and soul into Top 25 Kid Icarus Uprising Chapters, it's just kinda on the brakes until I figure out how to voice a review. As, well, it would be my first time voicing one. Anyways, this isn't a review of Sonic 06. That's still going to be a video review. I'm just skipping it for now to keep things moving.
So, with Sonic 06 knocked down, beaten, and turned into a bloody pulp, SEGA obviously had to change its style. So they shifted from the PS3/360 and moved on to the obviously superior Wii. Yes, I am heavily biased towards Nintendo, like everyone else. With that in mind, let's take a look at Sonic and the Secret Rings.
STORY
Okay, so how did all this begin? Well, Sonic is taking a nice little snooze in...wherever, when this genie from a ring appears out of Sonic's...well, ring. Already, I'm confused. What's this ring, why does Sonic have it, where the hell are we? Last I checked, Sonic doesn't really have a spot where he lives, he just kinda lives wherever. Anyways, the genie is known as Shahra, the Genie from the Ring. A Ring Genie acts similar to a Lamp Genie, with two distinct differences. They can grant a seemingly endless supply of wishes, however, not as much power. However, there's still enough power to make A CRAP TON OF HANDKERCHIEFS TO FILL SONIC'S HOUSE. Yes, asking for A handkerchief (I checked) will get you about tenfucktonthousands. Anyways, Shahra asks for Sonic's assistance to defeat Erazor Djinn, the Genie of the Lamp. Erazor wants to rid the Arabian Tales (yes, THOSE Arabian Tales) of their words so he may no longer be bind by them and be free of the book. After that, take over the world, M. Bison stock joke. So, Sonic heads in to stop him. And there's actually not a whole lot to this story. Which, granted, is a smart move from SEGA. Sonic 06 has a really, REALLY confusing story, and is the reason I'm having so much trouble voicing the review. (Johnny's review of it is an hour long, dammit, I have reasons) My guess is that SEGA wanted their next game to be less convoluted in order to compensate for the giant mess that 06 left. Anyways, I enjoy a majority of the characters. Mostly because there are only 3. Sonic, Shahra, and Erazor Djinn. Sonic, as we all know, is pretty much awesome. Shahra, while not having a lot to her, isn't an annoying companion, and does prove to be useful. And Erazor Djinn...-sign- Screw it. Erazor Djinn is one of the most badass villains ever. It's not BECAUSE of his actions, but he's so damn cliche I just can't help but enjoy him. He's also one of the closest villains to kill Sonic (him, Mephiles, Eggman), AND he manipulated Shahra to be one of the most pathetic boss fights on the planet, more on that later. Anyways, Erazor Djinn, having cursed Sonic with a fiery heart (ba-dum tsss), gives him the task of collecting the Seven World Rings. Short and to the point, they're the Arabian Chaos Emeralds. Sonic's the only one that can come into contact with them, mostly because both Sonic and the World Rings are completely different. Yeah. I don't get it either. You'll also run into a few ancestors, namely three. Ali Baba, ancestor of Tails, Sinbad, ancestor of Knuckles (WAY too damn fitting), and King Sharyhar, ancestor of Eggman. Why there's an ancestor of Eggman I'll never know. But there is a DESCENDANT of Eggman, so I guess that makes sense. But how does it all end? Well, when Sonic collects the World Rings, he opens the door to Erazor Djinn's palace. Erazor Djinn then convinces Shahra to give Erazor more power to wipe out the rest of the Arabian Nights, and turn into a being known as Alf-Layla Wa Layla...-sigh- Damn it, SEGA. Erazor was AWESOME. Why turn him into a speaking Sombra? ...or I guess Sombra would be a silent Alf-Layla Wa Layla. Anyways, Erazor (I refuse to call him the other name. It's either Erazor or Alfy.) prepares to strike Sonic down, however, Shahra gets in the way, resulting in her death...wow, there's a lot of dead Sonic characters, aren't there? Gamma, Tikal, Chaos, most of the Echidna race, even Sonic at one point. Anyways, Sonic uses the power of the Chaos Eme-I mean the World Rings to transform into Super Son-I mean Darkspine Sonic. Darkspine Sonic uses his newly acquired powers to defeat Erazor. After that, Sonic gets up, sits in Erazor's throne, and, like a bonafied BADASS, begins demanding wishes using the lamp he got earlier during some sort of run through a factory. First wish, bring Shahra back to life. Second wish, restore the Arabian Nights. Third wish, put Erazor back into the lamp. Like. A. Boss. Yeah, the handkerchief thing is cheesier than cheddar, but it's a small bump in an otherwise solid story. There's not a lot that goes wrong with it, and it actually gets well dramatized in some areas.
AESTHETICS So, how does the game look? Well, for the Wii, and at an early title at that, it looks really well. Look, the Wii, while obviously better than any system ever, is NOT as powerful as the 360 or PS3. You will NOT find a game on the Wii that looks as well as Uncharted 3. I will guarantee that. However, Sonic and the Secret Rings DOES look really well by Wii standards, and that, my friends, is a plus. The soundtrack is also filled with awesome. It mixes the rock you would find in Heroes and Adventure 2 and mixes it with some classic Arabian tunes. Needless to say, major eargasm.
GAMEPLAY Euuuuughhh...SEGA...this game play's TERRIBLY. How can people say Black Knight plays WORSE?! Alright, to start out with, this game uses minimal button input. I repeat: MINIMAL BUTTON INPUT. I get it, the game is for the Wii. And I also get it, it was one of the first Wii titles. But how come Super Mario Galaxy was able to utilize the controls better than THIS GAME?! Sonic moves on autopilot, meaning the game is on-rail-ish. You control Sonic's placement (where he is, left, right, or straight) using the Wii remote by tilting it side to side. I used to not think much of this, but now when I play it...well...let's just say James's throwing the controller in his Top Ten Worst Sonic Games is now justified. A lot. You can also equip abilities for a certain amount of points, but I'm wondering, why doesn't Sonic have these abilities to begin with? Are you telling me Sonic can't naturally backflip? Really? But the worst part is the progression. See, you don't naturally progress through the story. You have to complete certain missions in order to unlock the next story important mission. Now, I don't have a problem with this if the stages themselves are fun. Thing is, they're not in Secret Rings. In fact, they're really annoying. If it isn't a stupid race with this weird blue ball wind spirit thing, it's trying not to break a single pot. Which forces me to replay the mission again and again and again, all because it was apparently Pot Celebration Day. Make of that what you will.
BOTTOM LINE? ...yeah, this game sucks.
Okay, to give credit, the story and gameplay are pretty damn good. But what absolutely butches this game is the gameplay itself. It's too messy and the style of gameplay it tries is just BAD. In fact, I honestly think this would've been much better on anything BUT the Wii, surprisingly. Or hell, maybe an option to switch to that Classic Controller I've started using? I'm the Silver Keyblade, and I apologize for the trouble the 06 review is bringing. Next up is Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. See ya next mission.
