As in, your younger then me? I'm sorry, that statement kinda confused me. Beastie Boys arn't bad, either. Best rap I've heard though is from Madworld.

Rainbow Dash also shows people to be loyal to those you care about. After all, she's the element of Loyalty. Which would be fine and dandy if she didn't act like such a rude prat. It would be cool if the show gave an explanation to why she acts so bratty, even to her friends, but until then, I just see her as an overloved jerk. And no, I'm not against mean characters. I don't like bitch-y characters who have no reason to be bitch-y.

Probably going to get some flak for this but... Bronies - Don't get me wrong, I love FiM and the earlier generations but holy crap are the fans insane. I know that in any popular work in fiction there are going to be bad fans and they're going to be more noticible if the work has a large fanbase. That still doesn't make a good portion of the behavior any excusable though. I've seen sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and practically every possible thing a human being could insult and unjustly criticize. I mean holy hell, I don't think even Sonic or Zelda was this bad. I love the show but seriously, don't call me a "brony" (or "pegasis"). Ever. Rainbow Dash - Yeah, I know I'm complaining about ponies too much here but still. I seriously don't get why almost everyone loves Rainbow Dash. To me, she's one of those characters who had potential but that potential flew out the window with the writers giving her a piss poor attitude. I know Rarity has a bad attitude too but it's usually explained. (Like when Sweetie Belle was messing things up and Rarity yelled at her. I have two little brothers so I know how annoying little kids can be. If anyone counterargues that they never treated their sibling like that, I'm calling serious bullshit.) I mean honestly, Rainbow Dash is supposed to be a role model, and what is she pretty much telling everyone? Treat your friends and everyone around you like crap, be awesome at everything, and if you don't, you're going to end up a loser. That's a really good message for people, especially in this era where bullying is a major problem. Your explanation for Rainbow Dash is solid (and I have no faults with the Bronies explanation, though I personally think Touhou fanatics and Homestuckers are worse), but I couldn't help but notice you utilize Rarity as a more positive character... have you seen Sweet and Elite, darling? What's the moral of the episode? Remember your home roots, right? Actually, the moral was "lie your ass off and everything will be fine." Rarity's no role model either. Pinkie Pie gets the short end too in A Friend In Deed. Respecting introverts is a good lesson, but it came off more as "stalk the fuck out of the people you want to be friends with and they'll come around eventually." Rainbow Dash may be a bitch, but hell... at least she's a bitch to begin with. Rarity and Pinkie Pie are supposed to be good, but come off looking more bitchy due to it. Honestly, the only one who's a role model in this group is Applejack... and she's bland as hell compared to the others.

Isn't she also a good Role Model? Actually....probably not ever since Lesson Zero....and then Fluttershy snapped so many times.....so yeah your right. Applejack is the one to look up to. Although Applejack's not that bland is she? Oh and thanks for that Touhou fan thing, someone agrees :3

And Fluttershy, while kind, is bipolar. And even when she's nice, she's too shy to be a good example. Being an introvert is one thing, but being unassertive and defenseless is another.

Good points you have there.

And Fluttershy, while kind, is bipolar. And even when she's nice, she's too shy to be a good example. Being an introvert is one thing, but being unassertive and defenseless is another. I see. Good points you have there. I apologize for not explaining why I feel Applejack is bland. The three usual categories are appearance, personality, and abilities. Since the ponies mostly look alike, however, we will throw that out the window, so it's down to personality and abilities. Personality: In terms of personality, everybody mostly follows an archetype of sorts. Twilight's the bookworm, an introvert who focuses mainly on her studies and tries to do everything by the book, but that obsession of order and timeliness gives her a sort of perfectionist streak that literally drives her insane in Lesson Zero. Fluttershy is bipolar. Sure one moment she's the typical kind, unassertive, overtly shy to a fault archetype, but the next minute she's staring you down and screaming in your face. Rainbow Dash is your jock, arrogant and bitchy, yet afraid of failure. Does anybody remember the episode you see her do the Sonic Rainboom before the Cutie Mark Chronicles? She was freaking out, thus layers were shown. Pinkie Pie is an Adult Child... that's a drama in and of itself, especially after A Friend In Deed, in which we see that she's more a child in an adult's body and that it hits disturbing levels. Finally, Rarity... she's obsessed with being a lady, yet that inner monster of hers does break out from time to time. While I dislike Rarity, I find it amusing how she wants to go feral, yet composes herself for the sake of looking like a proper woman. This leaves us with Applejack who... is an apple farmer. Sure she's likeable, honest, earnest, hard-working, but... she has no real drama behind her. Her issues are all stemmed from the fact that she is honest and hard-working. She promises to buck an apple orchard by herself, so she tries to even though she can't. And then she promises to win some competition and bring money home, but when she loses the competition, she goes working at another town to bring the money anyway. She acts like a bloody saint. And I know it can teach you not to get in over your head, but when I said she's the only role model, I meant it because lil miss Applejack here is pretty fuckin' perfect. Abilities: This is easier to explain. Rarity can use magic. Twilight's talent is magic. Fluttershy is able to communicate with animals on a deeper level then any other pony and can fly even if she doesn't like to. Rainbow can fly, loves to fly, and can fly so fast she breaks the fucking sound barrier. Pinkie Pie may not have a horn or wings, but she manipulates reality as per what the Rule of Funny calls for. Many say Celestia and Luna are gods, but the day Pinkie learns her true potential, the day they get usurped. Applejack... kicks trees. She also does fancy rope tricks. That is all... that's shockingly realistic. And realism does not always equal better. In a land of magical ponies, Applejack is... surprisingly unmagical. Kind of hurts.

While I agree that her personality could've used a bit more work, I kind of like how unmagical she is. The way I see it, having one character that farts rainbows is interesting, having them all fart rainbows is dull. Even if it's different colours of rainbows. I'd say Applejack sort of serves as a down-to-earth counterweight for the fanciness of the other characters. And about Fluttershy being bipolar: Bipolar implies it goes back and forth like a yo-yo, which it doesn't. She only goes mental when driven to the brink.
Also, maybe we should continue this discussion in the dedicated pony thread, since this one's kind of meant for bitching and moaning about what other people like and it's going a bit off topic.

Y'know, I love the fact that me saying I don't like metal music generated so much controversy.

Now I'm going to say entire games I hate.
Elite Beat Agents: This game was a major milestone in my evolution as a critic. This was the very first game I played where I realized I truly hated it. And yet people like Nintendo Power said it's the best game on the DS. Why? WHY?
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks: I'm going to dedicate an entire countdown to my problems with this game.
